Exporting complete vehicles and EVs to Central Asia and Iran: three methods

Khorgos exported about 450,000 vehicles in 2025, up 6.9% year on year and a record (Sina Finance, 2026-01). Xinjiang exported 178,000 finished vehicles for the year, 80% via Khorgos, led by new-energy vehicles. We handle complete vehicles and EVs on a project basis, choosing the method by shipment and volume.

The three methods

Road TIR: flatbed or frame trailers on the same corridor — the Wuqia or Khorgos line, then Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Sarakhs, Tehran Customs. Suited to small quantities and used vehicles. On this method, plan on ~21–23 days from the Wuqia crossing to the Tehran West Customs bonded warehouse.

Car-carrier block train / ro-ro (JSQ): the mainstream for volume. A JSQ block train, frame racks or ro-ro, a batch at a time. Loading, pricing, documents and transit time differ from curtainsider cargo; transit time is quoted per project.

Brokered to a dedicated line: we build the plan and manage the shipment; the actual carriage is passed to a specialist vehicle line. Suited to very large batches or special models.

Crossings: Khorgos leads for vehicles

Xinjiang exported 178,000 finished vehicles in 2025, 80% via Khorgos; Irkeshtam handles a small volume. Destinations are mainly Central Asia and Russia. Vehicles for Iran run the same Central Asian corridor and then into Iran. Khorgos is a rail-and-road port and vehicle export is mostly by block train.

Documents: a few more than general cargo

China CCC (compulsory product certification): generally required to export a complete vehicle. Certificate of Conformity (CoC): the destination often requires it for registration and clearance. Export licence / quota: applies to some models and destinations — confirm up front. Vehicle papers: certificate, invoice, packing list, VIN list. An EV carries a traction battery and is declared as Class 9 special cargo, not as a plain vehicle.

Common mistakes

“Complete vehicles are easier to ship than general cargo” — the opposite: a higher bar, more documents, tighter scheduling. “An EV is just a normal vehicle” — it carries a battery and is declared as Class 9 special cargo. “Reaching Central Asia is the same as reaching Iran” — Central Asia is transit; vehicles for Iran still need a broker and a handover at the destination customs. “The road transit figure applies to a vehicle block train” — block train and ro-ro transit times are quoted per project; only vehicles on the road flatbed method follow the ~21–23 days from the Wuqia crossing.

What to send

  1. Model and quantity (ICE or EV, new or used)
  2. Destination city and customs (Tehran West Customs / Aprin / Mashhad)
  3. Dimensions and weight, and your method preference (road flatbed or car-carrier block train / ro-ro)

Priced per project. For a quote send: model and quantity; destination city and customs; dimensions and weight; and your preference of method (road flatbed or car-carrier block train).

FAQ

Do you carry complete vehicles?

Yes, on a project basis. Three methods, chosen by shipment and volume: road TIR on flatbed / frame trailers, a car-carrier block train (JSQ) / ro-ro, or brokered to a dedicated vehicle line.

Can you move EVs?

Yes. An EV carries a traction battery and is declared as Class 9 special cargo, with a full 16-section MSDS and UN packaging documentation.

What documents does vehicle export need?

China CCC, the destination's Certificate of Conformity, the vehicle certificate and a VIN list; some models / destinations also need an export licence.

Can vehicles go on a flatbed trailer?

Small quantities and used vehicles can go on flatbed / frame trailers on the same road corridor; volume is better on a car-carrier block train or ro-ro.

How many days to Tehran for a vehicle?

On the road flatbed method, plan on ~21–23 days from the Wuqia crossing to the Tehran West Customs bonded warehouse; block train and ro-ro are quoted per project.

Who clears a vehicle through customs?

The same as general cargo: the vehicle is delivered into a customs bonded warehouse, and Iran clearance and duty are the buyer's licensed broker. We do not clear Iran customs.
